History

The Sponsored Projects Advisory Team evolved from the Sponsored Programs Enhancement Integration Team (SPIT). The goal of the original SPIT effort was to improve the administration of sponsored projects at the University of Michigan -- the same goal the current SPA Team stives for. Team members were research administrators from UM academic and administrative units, including Division of Research Development and Administration (DRDA), Financial Operations, MAIS, and Procurement Services.

Initial work
The SP Advisory Team is an outgrowth of an effort launched in October 2001, the Sponsored Programs Implementation Team (SPIT II), that was charged with validating issues and priorities identifed by an earlier Sponsored Programs Integration and Enhancement Team. The Implementation team also completed a situation analysis, and delivered solutions. One of the recommendations of the SPIT effort was to create a standing advisory team.
